In 1957 Kirksville Senior High School graduated 123 Seniors. Since that date 28 have died leaving 95 remaining classmates. During the weekend of October 5-7, seventy-nine classmates gathered in Kirksville for a 50-year reunion. They came from coast to coast representing 20 states and Washington, D.C.
The celebration began with an informal social Friday evening at the Shrine Club. Classmates, spouses and friends gathered to enjoy memorabilia displays and to reminisce. Each classmate received a memory book complete with class history, data concerning each person and personal memories written by some.
The women had a coffee Saturday morning at the home of Dorothy Miley Troester while the men played golf.
A banquet and program were held Saturday evening at the Shrine Club beginning at 6 p.m. After a Prime Rib dinner, the Four Cast, a mixed quartet under the direction of Rich McKinney, entertained with music from the fifties and beyond. A candlelight memorial was held in memory of the deceased classmates. John Moore conducted a Fifties Trivia Contest, pitting a team of experts guided by Linda Read against a weaker group coached by Dale Tindale.
The co-captains of the 1957 Tiger football team (Moore and Tindale), along with 1956-57 Homecoming Queen Sara Mangus, crowned Jeanne Truitt the new Homecoming Queen in recognition of all of her work on behalf of the class during the past fifty years. The evening concluded with toasts to the class, to the KHS faculty, and to the members of the armed forces who are now engaged on our behalf in the Middle East. It was a "Magical" night for all.
The weekend celebration concluded with a buffet breakfast at Thousand Hills Dining Lodge.
